How it works
The cooling fan kicks in when the engine is stationary and temperature climbs (triggered by a thermal switch); the thermostat opens circulation to the radiator once the engine is warm. A fan that won't spin causes overheating in traffic jams; a thermostat stuck closed sends the temperature climbing very quickly.
Maintenance tips
- Check the fan fuse if it stops spinning.
- A stuck thermostat should be replaced, with the circuit bled afterward.
