Forks / front suspension

Absorbs front-wheel impacts and keeps the tyre in contact with the road.

How it works

The telescopic fork contains springs and oil (sometimes a hydraulic cartridge) to filter out road irregularities and control movement under braking. Worn seals let oil leak out (a hazard: it can reach the brakes), reducing damping and stability.

Maintenance tips

  • Watch for leaks on the fork tubes.
  • Replace the fork oil periodically.
