Shock / rear suspension
Cushions the rear wheel for comfort, grip and stability.
How it works
One or two shock absorbers (spring plus hydraulic damping), often working through a swingarm and linkage, control rear-end movement. A dead shock (leaking or no longer damping) makes the bike bouncy and unstable, especially over bumps and in hard cornering.
Maintenance tips
- Adjust preload to match the load you're carrying.
- A leaking shock should be rebuilt or replaced.
