Fuel system

Choke / cold-start enricher

Enriches the mixture when cold to make starting easier.

How it works

The choke (manual) or enrichener (automatic, temperature-controlled) adds extra fuel for cold starting. Once the engine is warm, it needs to switch off. If it stays engaged, fuel consumption rises and the engine stalls or fouls the plug; if it doesn't work, cold starting becomes a struggle.

Maintenance tips

  • Switch off the manual choke as soon as the engine can hold an idle.
  • A failed automatic enrichener needs to be replaced.
