Stabilises and converts the alternator's current to protect the battery.
How it works
The regulator converts the alternator's AC current to DC and caps the voltage so it doesn't overcharge the battery. It runs hot and is a commonly worn part. If it fails, charging becomes unstable (pulsing headlights) or it destroys the battery through overcharging.
Maintenance tips
- Mount it in a well-ventilated area.
- Watch for blackened or melted connectors at its terminals.
