Fuel system

Fuel pump

Sends fuel under pressure to the injection system (fuel-injected bikes/scooters).

How it works

On injected models, an electric pump (often inside the tank) pressurizes fuel for the injectors. A weakening pump starves the engine of fuel under load: hesitation, power loss, stalling. Its pre-filter can also clog.

Maintenance tips

  • Listen for the pump's faint hum when the ignition is turned on.
  • Don't ride too often on reserve (the pump is cooled by the surrounding fuel).
