Brake pads
The friction pads that press on the disc to brake — a key wear part.
How it works
The pads are clamped against the disc by the caliper; their friction material wears away with every application. Once too worn, they lose bite, squeal (a built-in wear indicator), and can damage the disc. Glazed or grease-contaminated pads slip instead of gripping. They're replaced in pairs.
Maintenance tips
- Replace before wear reaches the metal backing plate.
- Degrease the disc and pads if glazing occurs.
- Bed them in gently after replacement.
