Exhaust
Exhaust & silencer
Expels burnt gases, cuts noise and helps engine efficiency.
How it works
Combustion gases exit through the header pipe and then the muffler (silencer), sometimes passing through a catalytic converter that reduces emissions. A leak at the header draws in air and causes popping on deceleration; a clogged muffler (carbon buildup on 2-strokes) or a melted catalytic converter restricts the engine and causes a loss of power.
Maintenance tips
- Retighten or redo the header gasket if it's leaking.
- On 2-strokes, decarbonize the muffler and exhaust port.
