Engine cases

The casing that holds the crankshaft, gearbox and engine oil.

How it works

The crankcase houses the bottom end (crankshaft, gearbox) and doubles as the oil reservoir. Its covers (ignition, clutch) are sealed with gaskets. Hardened gaskets seep oil; a leak at the drain plug is common after servicing.

Maintenance tips

  • Retighten the drain plug to spec with a new washer.
  • Replace any cover gaskets that are seeping.
