Abnormal vibrations
The motorcycle vibrates noticeably more than usual — in the bars, footpegs, seat, or the whole frame. Every motorcycle vibrates a bit by nature (especially singles and twins), but a sudden or gradual increase in vibration signals a problem. The key to diagnosis is figuring out what the vibrations depend on: engine RPM (they appear at a certain rev range, and are present even at a standstill while revving) or SPEED (they appear at a certain speed and follow the wheel, not the throttle). RPM-linked vibration points to the engine and its mounts: loose engine mounts or bushings transmitting normal vibration (a common and simple cause), or, more rarely, an internal engine imbalance (balance shaft, crankshaft bearings). Speed-linked vibration points to the running gear: a deformed, facet-worn, or poorly balanced tire, or a worn wheel bearing. Chain drive (worn or poorly tensioned) also generates vibration and jerkiness, especially in higher gears. Location helps too: vibration in the bars points to the front end (tire, wheel bearing); in the footpegs and frame, to the engine and drivetrain. Urgency threshold: vibration from loose mounts or a chain can be dealt with calmly, but a deformed tire, a worn wheel bearing, or a growing engine imbalance shouldn't be ignored — the running gear affects safety, and an internal imbalance can signal serious engine wear on the way.
