- Clean the gasket mating surfaces (head and manifold) of carbon buildup and old gasket residue, without scratching the surfaces, to ensure a good seal.
- Fit a new exhaust gasket of the correct part number, the right way round, and refit the manifold, guiding it onto the studs without forcing anything.
- Retighten the flange nuts gradually, in several passes and in a crisscross pattern, to the manufacturer's torque, so the gasket compresses evenly without distorting.
